Pentecost happened during the Jewish Feast of Weeks, also known as Shavuot. It was a time when God’s people remembered the giving of the Law at Mount Sinai. But on that particular day, recorded in Acts chapter 2, something incredible happened—something new.

God didn’t give tablets of stone this time. He gave His very Spirit. The law moved from the outside to the inside.

Fifty days after Passover—fifty days after Jesus, the Lamb of God, was crucified and rose again—the Holy Spirit was poured out like fire on His followers. Pentecost fulfilled what the Law had been pointing toward all along: not just obedience, but transformation. Not just rules, but relationships. The presence of God moved from the temple into the hearts of His people.

As followers of Christ, we now carry that presence. The law of God lives through us—because of Jesus’ sacrifice, and because of God’s amazing grace.

When the Holy Spirit comes to live in us, we’re not just given gifts—we’re given power to love. We are called to live out the greatest commandments: to love God with everything we have, and to love people with the same powerful love that raised Jesus from the grave.

And that love sends us. It compels us. Pentecost wasn’t the end—it was the launch. Because Jesus didn’t just save us, He sent us. He called us to go and make disciples of all nations—baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—and teaching them everything He taught us.

Pentecost is not just a moment in history. It’s the movement of God’s Spirit, alive in us today.
